UPDATE: Two Officers Injured, Suspect Dead in Overnight Shooting While Pursuing Homicide Suspect

Two law enforcement officers, one from the Woodbridge Police Department and one from the New York City Police Department, are recovering from injuries sustained overnight while attempting to locate a suspect in a homicide.

The suspect was killed during the encounter. 

The Attorney General’s Office said details of the incident will be released later today by the state’s top law enforcement officer.

This incident stresses the daily risks that law enforcement officers face to ensure community safety.

The state's top law enforcement official expressed a commitment to working with partners to conduct a thorough investigation and to prevent future violence against officers.

The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA) is investigating the incident, during which the suspect was shot and killed at the scene.Ad

Officials said communication has been established with both the Woodbridge Township Police Department and the New York City Police Department regarding the investigation.

“Officers take significant risks daily to protect communities, and there is a continued need to work together to prevent and disrupt gun violence in New Jersey”.
