Authorities in Atlantic County announced that on Thursday, July 11, Bilal Rex, 20, of Atlantic City, and Samir Abdullah, 21, of Galloway Twp., were sentenced to three years in New Jersey State Prison.
Officials stated that both Rex and Abdullah were already serving terms of incarceration due to previous guilty pleas.
The new terms of incarceration will be served consecutively to their previously imposed sentences, officials say.
According to officials, on December 12, 2022, Rex and Abdullah assaulted two correctional officers while inside the Atlantic County Juvenile Detention Center.
Officials said on May 16, 2024, they each pleaded guilty to third-degree Aggravated Assault on Corrections Employees.
