UPDATE: Two NJ Men Charged in Ongoing Fatal Shooting Investigation

Authorities in Hudson County announced that two men have been charged as part of an ongoing investigation relating to a fatal shooting that occurred in Jersey City on Tuesday, April 30.

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said that Nyzir Wilson and Stephon Murphy, both 23, of Jersey City, are charged with Robbery, Burglary, Possession of a Weapon (Firearm) for an Unlawful Purpose, Unlawful Possession of Weapon (Firearm), Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, and Conspiracy to Commit Burglary.

Wilson is additionally charged with Attempted Murder, officials stated.

Officials say both are being held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

According to officials on Thursday, May 23, a Judge of the Superior Court granted the State’s Detention Motion against Murphy.

Officials said Wilson is tentatively scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, for a detention motion. 

Shortly after 12:40 a.m., officials say,  the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Audubon Avenue and College Street.

Authorities say responding officers located an extensive crime scene

Officials stated that an unresponsive male – later identified as David Jones, 24, of Jersey City – was located at 1 College Street with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body.AdHe was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 1:35 a.m., officials said.

According to officials, Nyzir Wilson was located nearby with an apparent gunshot wound to an upper extremity and was treated at Jersey City Medical Center.

This matter is actively being investigated by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department, officials say.
