A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred on I-80 eastbound at milepost 66.6 in Hackensack City, Bergen County, late Tuesday night.
The incident, which involved four vehicles, left two people dead and several others injured.
According to a preliminary investigation by NJ State Police officials, a Toyota SUV was traveling eastbound on the local lanes of I-80, while a Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound in the express lanes.
An Isuzu box truck and a GMC SUV were heading westbound in the express lanes.
Near milepost 66.6, the Toyota struck the curbed median, entered the express lanes, and collided with the Volvo tractor-trailer.
The impact caused the Volvo to strike the center concrete median and veer into the westbound express lanes, where it collided with the Isuzu box truck.
