Police in Bloomfield took two juveniles into custody on Wednesday after they unlawfully entered Bloomfield High School, prompting a temporary lockdown.
School staff notified the Bloomfield Police Department of unauthorized individuals on the school grounds. Officers quickly responded, placing the building on lockdown to ensure student safety while investigating the situation.
After clearing the building, detectives identified the two juveniles, who were neither students nor residents of Bloomfield.
The juveniles were taken into custody and will face charges of juvenile delinquency, with the case now referred to Essex County Family Court.
Police believe this to be an isolated incident and confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the school.
Chief of Police George Ricci emphasized the importance of school safety, stating, "Every student has a right to be safe while furthering their education. We take all security threats seriously and will ensure that the juveniles who disrupted the school day face consequences."
The cooperation between the Bloomfield Board of Education, high school staff, and the police department was critical in resolving the incident safely.
