There is an active investigation underway into the cause of a crash that closed a portion of a roadway in Elizabeth and sent a man to the hospital early this morning.
According to preliminary information sent by Elizabeth Police officials, the incident happened in the southbound lanes of Rt. 1&9 near East Jersey Street at around 2:30 a.m. where police say they were called to the scene after receiving 911 calls.
Units arriving at the scene found two cars involved in the crash that were driven by Elizabeth men.
According to police, one of the vehicles rear-ended the other vehicle causing it to crash into the barrier.
EMS transported a 29-year-old male to University Hospital in critical condition.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
