A portion of Vauxhall Road between Stuyvesant Avenue and Pine Avenue was closed for approximately four hours while police investigated a serious crash that left as many as six people injured.
Union Police responded to Vauxhall Road near Cedar Avenue at approximately 7:17 a.m. Friday for a report of serious motor vehicle crash.
An investigation into the crash revealed that a 2002 Nissan Exterra, driven by Joseph Cajuste, was traveling West on Vauxhall Road near the intersection of Stuyvesant Avenue when his vehicle was struck by a 2010 Chevy Camaro attempting to make a left turn onto Stuyvesant Avenue.
Police said the driver of the Nissan swerved in an attempt to avoid the crash and continued down Vauxhall Road at an accelerated rate of speed hitting two other vehicles and subsequently crashed into the front left corner of a house located at 1088 Cedar Terrace.
The home - which was occupied by two residents at the time of the crash - was deemed inhabitable due to the structural damage incurred.
The driver of the Nissan Exterra, Joseph Cajuste, and passengers; an adult male and four juveniles were transported to University Hospital in Newark with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police added.
The investigation is ongoing and is being conducted by Officer Frederic Sa of the Union Police Department.
Any witnesses to this crash are asked to call the Union Police Department Traffic Bureau at (908) 851-5070.
