Authorities have announced the arrest of three individuals in the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Mr. Wed Thalerand of Elizabeth, who was killed on December 1 in Newark. Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II confirmed that Mr. Zaire Kelly, an 18-year-old from Newark, and two juveniles have been charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree murder, first-degree felony murder, first-degree robbery, and weapons violations.
The shooting occurred on Sunday night at the intersection of Mapes Terrace and Huntington Terrace, where Thalerand was sitting in his vehicle when he was fatally shot.
If convicted, Kelly could face a prison sentence of up to 30 years, while the juveniles could face up to 20 years behind bars. Authorities emphasized that these charges are accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The investigation is ongoing.
