Firefighters from across Essex and Bergen Counties responded into Belleville to assist in battling a three-alarm fire that tore through an apartment building leaving all its residents displaced.
Firefighters were called to 62-64 Cortland Street at around 6 a.m. after receiving reports of fire coming from the second floor of a two-story house.
Officials say the fire quickly escalated into a third alarm as the fire spread to the cockloft then through the roof of the house.
The fire, which was reported to be gas fed, took about three hours to control officials said.
There were no initial reports of injuries, and the cause is under investigation.
