Authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in an armed robbery that took place early Friday morning, December 27. According to Newark Police officials, officers responded to a call at approximately 12:40 a.m. regarding an armed robbery at the Exxon Gas Station located at 1425 McCarter Highway.
Police say a male suspect entered the station’s mini-mart, brandished a handgun, and forced the clerk to open both the cash register and the store’s safe.
The suspect then fled eastbound along 3rd Avenue and McCarter Highway, heading toward Passaic Street.
Detectives describe the suspect as a Black male, approximately 6’1” and weighing 195 pounds.
At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a face mask, green New York Jets gloves, and black Nike Air sneakers. Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is urging anyone who may have information about the suspect’s identity to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.
