The Attorney General's Office has announced an investigation into an incident that occurred on Tuesday, April 9, in Southampton Township involving a New Jersey State Police (NJSP) vehicle and a motorcycle, resulting in the death of a civilian.According to official reports, the accident occurred while an on-duty state trooper was conducting routine patrols along State Route 70.
Officials said his marked NJSP vehicle collided with a motorcycle near Burrs Mill Road.
The motorcyclist, an adult male whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was promptly transported to Virtua Mount Holly Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at approximately 12:45 p.m.
The state trooper involved in the collision reportedly did not sustain significant injuries.
Under a 2019 law, the Attorney General's Office is mandated to investigate deaths that occur during encounters with law enforcement officers or while the individual is in custody.
Such investigations are required to be presented to a grand jury to determine if the evidence justifies an indictment against the officers involved.
The investigation into this fatal crash is currently ongoing as authorities work to piece together the circumstances that led to this unfortunate event.
