UPDATE: Shooting Kills Jersey City Man

According to authorities, at approximately 10:10 p.m., Jersey City Police Officers responded to the area of Martin Luther King Drive and Union Street on a report of a male gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, the responding Police Officers found a victim on the sidewalk near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Union Street.

Police identified the victim as Alshaakir Talmadge, 20, of Jersey City, who suffered apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body during the incident.

Authorities said Talmadge was unresponsive and immediately treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Services.

EMS transported Talmadge to Jersey City Medical Center where medical treatment continued.

Medics pronounced him dead at approximately 11:40 p.m.

The cause and manner of his death are pending an investigation by the Medical Examiner.

No arrests have been made and the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department.
