Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a fatal shooting.
Officials say, on Sunday, May 5, Mr. Tyshawn Christian, 25, of Newark was shot in the area of 35-38 Smith Street.
Medical personnel transported Christian to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:09 p.m.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
