Newark

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted in connection with a violent robbery and assault that occurred on September 24.

The incident took place in the 400 block of Clinton Avenue, following a dispute over alleged vehicle damage.

Nino According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé, officers responded to the scene where the victim and another man were arguing over whether the victim had damaged the man’s car.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., the man exited his vehicle at Clinton Avenue and Bergen Street, accusing the victim of hitting his car.

When the victim got out of his truck to inspect the supposed damage and found none, the man and a passenger in his vehicle began to assault him.

The attackers punched and kicked the victim, leaving him on the ground.

The passenger then attempted to steal the victim’s wallet but was unsuccessful. After the assault, both suspects fled eastbound on Clinton Avenue.

The police have released an image of the passenger involved in the attack and believe the suspect frequently visits the area of Clinton Avenue from Chadwick Avenue to Seymour Avenue, as well as the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Farley Avenue.

Director Fragé is urging anyone with information about the identity of the suspect to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.
