The Newark Department of Public Safety announced that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of 51-year-old Sawab O. Williams, a Newark resident, in connection with a serious pedestrian crash that occurred on the morning of Tuesday, April 1.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Irvine Turner Boulevard and Spruce Street after reports that a child had been struck by a vehicle.

Responding units found a 9-year-old girl suffering from severe injuries.

She was immediately transported to University Hospital, where she remains in critical but stable condition, according to officials.

The driver involved in the collision fled the scene without rendering aid, prompting an investigation by Newark detectives.

Through their inquiries, authorities identified Williams—also known by the nickname "SB"—as the individual allegedly responsible for the incident.

Williams is described as being approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing around 240 pounds, with a dark brown complexion, bald head, and brown eyes.
