A fast-moving fire in Newark’s Vailsburg section on Friday afternoon displaced 13 people from five families.
The American Red Cross responded by providing temporary housing, food, clothing, and other immediate needs.
According to fire officials, crews were dispatched to 69 Brookdale Avenue around 12:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a house fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed flames coming from the back of a two-and-a-half-story wood-framed home.
Crews immediately stretched multiple hose lines and entered the building to check for any trapped or injured occupants.
Investigators believe the fire originated from burning rubbish outside the home, which quickly spread to the structure.
Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the fire within 30 minutes, preventing further damage.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
