Newark fire officials are investigating the cause of a severe fire that obliterated two homes in Newark's South Ward on Wednesday afternoon.ChickenThe American Red Cross swiftly stepped in to aid approximately 12 families affected by the disaster.

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé reported that the blaze broke out at approximately 12:24 p.m. in a 2-1/2-story residential building at 317 Leslie Street.

Responding to the urgent call, over a dozen firefighters faced heavy flames ravaging through one of the homes, necessitating the deployment of up to four water lines to combat the inferno effectively.

Director Frage said the situation escalated, prompting a second alarm as the fire spread to a neighboring residence at 319 Leslie Street.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the fire was successfully brought under control by 1:39 p.m.

Officials said no injuries have been reported in the incident. However, the fire resulted in the displacement of 20 adults.

In response, the Red Cross's disaster action team was on the scene, providing crucial support to those affected.

The organization offered Red Cross emergency assistance, which included arrangements for temporary lodging, food, clothing, and addressing other immediate needs for the 20 individuals from 12 families.

As the community begins to recover from this fire, the cause remains under investigation.
