Christopher W. Cox, 35, of Red Bank, has been sentenced to eight years in state prison for secretly recording videos of women and girls without their knowledge or consent in stores and private homes over a two-year period.

The sentence, handed down by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Joseph W. Oxley, follows Cox’s guilty plea to charges including second-degree Eluding Police, second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and third-degree Invasion of Privacy.

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Cox’s offenses occurred between 2021 and 2023 and included using his cell phone to covertly record victims in supermarkets and retail stores across Monmouth and Union counties.

Prosecutors also revealed that Cox, a plumber by trade, recorded similar videos while working in clients’ homes.

The investigation began after Cox was observed in October 2022 following female shoppers at the ShopRite in Shrewsbury and using his phone to record them.

He later fled a traffic stop in Red Bank but was apprehended in Little Silver shortly after.

A search of Cox’s devices uncovered numerous video files, many taken from below using his phone hidden in baskets or bags.

Cox’s sentencing also includes lifetime parole supervision and registration as a sex offender under Megan’s Law.

“The disturbing nature of this defendant’s actions demanded accountability,” said Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago. “This resolution is fair and necessary to deter such behavior and provide justice for the victims.”   Ad

Cox faced a 67-count indictment in April 2024, which was later amended to include crimes against all 27 known victims.
