Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities have charged an 18-year-old male and a 14-year-old juvenile in connection with the fatal shooting of Ms. Shuri Henry on Thanksgiving night.
Authorities said Ms. Henry was shot during an apparent robbery on South 20th Street then the suspects allegedly fled in Henry's 2015 Kia Sorrento.
According to authorities, earlier today, patrol officers from the Newark Police Department spotted the victim's car, which was occupied by three males.
Police said when the officers attempted to stop the car, the driver refused to stop and the three occupants, two adults, and a juvenile were apprehended after a brief pursuit.
As a result of an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force, authorities have charged Mr. **Supreme A. Allah, Jr., 18, of Newark,** with murder, felony murder, robbery, carjacking, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a gun for an illegal purpose and conspiracy to commit murder.
Authorities said they also charged a fourteen-year-old juvenile with the same offenses.
Police said they charged a third suspect, Mr. Antonio L. Torres, 20, of Newark, with eluding the police.
Authorities forwarded Allah and Torres to the Essex County Correctional Facility pending an appearance in Essex County Central Judicial Processing Court (CJP).
The juvenile, whose name is being withheld due to his age, is being lodged in the Essex County Youth Detention Facility authorities said.
The investigation into this incident is continuing, and additional arrests are possible, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
These are mere accusations lodged against the suspects. They are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
