Authorities confirmed that a pregnant woman was injured after she attempted to stop her suicidal sibling.
Police responded to the 200 block of Manhattan Avenue shortly after 8 p.m. on a report that a 22-year-old woman was stabbed.
The woman, who suffered a cut on her hand, was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.
Based on preliminary investigations, the victim told police that when she asked her brother - who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and was having suicidal thoughts - to leave the home, he pointed a cake icing spatula to his throat.
When the victim tried to grab the spatula, she suffered a cut to her hand.
The woman immediately ran to a bedroom where her husband and 1-year-old son were.
Arriving officers with their guns drawn ordered the 31-year-old to put the spatula down but ultimately used pepper spray on the him and placed him under arrest.
The male was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for an evaluation.
He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and domestic violence.
