Update: Police Swarm Neighborhood After Armed Men Bail from Vehicle in Newark, One Dead

A reported carjacking quickly turned violent as swarms of police responded after a group of juveniles bailed out of vehicle carjacked earlier.

The ordeal began after police chased a vehicle occupied by six juveniles described as carjacking suspects.

Authorities followed the silver Jaguar Sedan that had been reported carjacked on Millington Avenue near Nairn Place at about 6:40 a.m.

The juveniles then bailed out of the vehicle, scattering in the area of Hawthorne and Demarest Ave. At that location, one of the unidentified suspects was pronounced dead, after he was allegedly struck by a police vehicle.

Two of the other suspects reportedly ran inside a Hawthorne Avenue home and barricaded themselves. They eventually surrendered to police.

According to officials, the juvenile are believed to be linked to a series of crimes - a carjacking, several robberies and at least one shooting - throughout the city.
