At approximately 3:50 p.m., a ShotSpotter device detected gunfire near the train tracks in the 70s block of South Street.

Newark police officers responded quickly and, upon arrival, found evidence confirming that a shooting had taken place.

The Newark Shooting Response Team was alerted, and hospitals across the region were notified to be on the lookout for any potential walk-in gunshot victims.

As of late Wednesday evening, no injuries had been reported.

Police believe a juvenile suspect fled the scene on foot shortly after the incident.

That individual remains at large, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting are currently under active investigation.
