Authorities have confirmed that this morning's Walmart incident was a non-fatal police-involved shooting.
According to initial reports, gunfire rang out at approximately 9 a.m. inside the parking lot of the Walmart Center located on Harrison Avenue after the accused shoplifter threatened to shoot at the officer. The officer who shot the suspect was not injured but was transported to the hospital for an evaluation.
Police has confirmed that the suspect was quickly apprehended in Newark by Kearny police.
Adding that the incident is under investigation by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office, which is state policy for all municipal police shootings.
Walmart is open for business, police added.
