The Essex County Prosecutor's Office identified a man who was shot dead at a location in Newark on Sunday morning.
Officials say the second fatal shooting incident occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the 400 block of 7th Avenue were Newark police officers responded to that area on reports of shots fired.
Officials say arriving units located an unresponsive male within a vehicle at the intersection of 7th Avenue and North 12th Street.
The male suffered several apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:37 am, according to Chief Fennelly.
According to authorities, they identified the victim as Mr. Nathaniel Mickens, 32, of Newark.
Police say the overnight fatal shooting appears to be unrelated and are being investigated by the Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
Both investigations are active and ongoing.
