A press release sent to the media by police officers had officers arrest **Shamill Magre, 20, of Newark,** who they said is wanted for a shooting that occurred on Thursday, March 2.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Newark Police responded to a call of a shooting at Sunset Avenue near Lindsley Avenue.
Director Ambrose said a 22-year old male victim was shot and transported to University Hospital for treatment for a non-life-threatening injury.
Detectives developed evidence that indicated Shamill Magre as the alleged suspect involved in the shooting prompting officers to issue a warrant for his arrest.
Director Ambrose said detectives arrested Magre on 1st Street Friday and charged him with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
The charges lodged against Mr. Magre are merely accusations.
Mr. Magre is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
