Police in Newark announced the arrest of Mr. Louis T. Blon, 23, and Mr. James Westbrook, 22, both of Newark, following a robbery and burglary at a gas station last night.
According to police, at approximately 9:30 p.m., police responded to the K & S Gas Station at 194 Chancellor Avenue on a call of a robbery.
Police say two men walked into the gas station’s mini-mart and took merchandise without paying for it.
When the clerk demanded they pay for the item, the men struck him, held him against his will and stole his cash.
According to police, the victim broke free and locked the two suspects inside the mini-mart.
The suspects broke through a wall leading into an adjoining garage seeking escape.
Members of the Newark Police Division’s Emergency Services Unit entered the garage and located the suspects inside an office.
Police say Blon and Westbrook were immediately arrested and offices also recovered a loaded handgun with a high capacity magazine at the scene.
Blon and Westbrook are each charged with robbery, burglary, criminal restraint, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of prohibited weapons according to police.
These charges are merely accusations.
Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
