Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Robert A. Bruno, 29, of Newark, in connection with a bank robbery and aggravated assault that occurred yesterday.
According to police, after 2 p.m., police responded to Santander Bank, 290 Ferry Street, on a call of a robbery.
Police say a male suspect handed a teller a note demanding cash and stating he had a bomb. The suspect also threatened to shoot the teller.
According to police, as he fled the bank, the suspect was approached by a male bank employee, who the suspect struck in the face before running and heading westbound on Ferry Street.
Detectives investigating this incident identified Bruno, apprehended at the intersection of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Quitman Street.
He was found in possession of CDS cocaine and heroin. Detectives also recovered $1,200.00 in cash in suspected proceeds from the robbery.
Police said Bruno faces charges of robbery, aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and CDS possession.
These charges are merely accusations.
Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
