UPDATE: Police Arrest Man Who Struck, Killed Deaf Pedestrian During Hudson County Police Pursuit

Jersey City

Police arrested a man in connection with the hit and run crash that killed a deaf man while he waited at a bus stop.

According to authorities, officers took the 19-year-old man into custody late Thursday afternoon.

Hudson County Prosecutor's office sheriff's officer on patrol spotted a vehicle speeding and running traffic lights on Kennedy Boulevard near Clinton Avenue at around 4:45 a.m.

Authorities said officers then radioed that the driver refused to stop when a short time later, the car collided with another vehicle.

The SUV crashed through a bus stop after it jumped the curb and struck Mr. Umar King, 33, of Jersey City on the sidewalk. King was not aware of the out of control car that was heading towards the bus stop.

One suspect remains at-large.

Official charges against the suspect are pending.
