UPDATE: Police Arrest Man for Shooting Teen Girl in her Back in Newark

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Marvin Williams, 49, of Newark, in connection with an aggravated assault shooting that occurred today.

According to police, at approximately 1 a.m., police responded to a residence in the 200 block of 9th Street on a call of a shooting.

Police said responding officers located a 17-year-old female victim who had been shot by a suspect she knows.

Police say the girl was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reportedly in stable condition.

Williams, identified as a suspect in this incident, was found in possession of ammunition and was arrested at the location without incident.

Police also recovered a firearm in the area.

He faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm for an illegal purpose, possession of prohibited weapons (hollow point ammunition), and certain persons forbidden from weapon possession. 

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
