Police are continuing to search for the suspect who stabbed a Plainfield man while officials are crediting Newark YMCA employees for swiftly assisting the man.
According to police officials, the 45-year-old Plainfield man is recovering in the hospital after he was stabbed during an argument on Monday afternoon in downtown Newark.
Authorities said officers responded to the Newark YMCA sometime around 1 p.m. where they found an alert and conscious male victim who told officers that he was stabbed immediately after an argument with an unidentified male.
Officials at the YMCA stated that the man ran into their facility, for protection, after being stabbed on Broad Street forcing their on-duty staff to secure the premises and contact police.
YMCA staff members comforted the man until emergency responders arrived to conduct their investigation officials said. YMCA staffers would not immediately respond to request for information at the scene.
Police arrived at the facility and set up a crime scene where they investigated the incident according to a statement by YMCA officials
The alleged suspect was described as approximately 5’7 feet tall, 160 pounds and was last seen wearing a dark top, metallic purple sneakers and an old navy cap.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information regarding the stabbing is asked to contact police.
