A Plainfield man has been convicted of murdering his pregnant ex-girlfriend, following a two-week trial that concluded on February 6, 2025.
The verdict, announced by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone, comes more than three years after the tragic shooting.
Shakir Tyler, 45, was found guilty of the murder of 35-year-old Tayeesha Webb, who was shot and killed outside her Edison residence on September 4, 2021.
In addition to the murder charge, Tyler was also convicted of unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose.
The trial, which began on January 21, 2025, saw Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutors Lynne Seborowski and Emily Millner present evidence and witness testimony detailing the sequence of events that led to Webb’s death.
Prosecutors argued that Tyler confronted Webb at her home, an encounter that escalated into fatal gunfire.
With the conviction secured, Tyler now faces a possible life sentence. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 1, 2025, before Superior Court Judge Thomas Abode, J.S.C.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about gun violence and domestic abuse, particularly in cases involving former partners.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of seeking help in volatile relationships and have encouraged individuals in danger to reach out to local support services.
