According to NJ State Police, troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash at 12:17 a.m. on I-287 south MP 5.2, Piscataway Twp, Middlesex County, to investigate reports a crash with injuries.
Officials said based on a preliminary investigation, a 2003 Honda Accord was being operated by Ms. Tamiyka N. Scott, 49, from Piscataway, and occupied by passenger Ms. Sherine T. Rollins, 48, from Staten Island, was traveling on I-287 south in the area of mile marker 5.2.
Police said the Honda exited the right of the roadway, struck multiple trees and overturned.
As a result of the crash, Scott was partially ejected from the car and suffered fatal injuries and Rollins was also ejected but suffered severe injuries.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
