MAYS LANDING- A Philadelphia man is charged in connection to the shooting death of a 21-year-old man on Friday night, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner announced.
According to a statement released by Prosecutor Tyner, at 8:44 p.m., Friday, Jan. 4, Atlantic City Police received a 911 call for a shooting at the Sunset Inn, reporting that a man had been shot.
Police arrived at the scene and Mr. Ky’Lee Haynes of Atlantic City was transported to the AtlantiCare Medical Center City Campus Trauma Center where he was pronounced deceased Prosecutor Tyner said in a statement.
Investigators were able to broadcast a description of the suspect involved in the fatal shooting. Investigators subsequently responded to a Shotspotter call in the area of North Florida Ave and located a male matching the description of the suspect from the previous shooting at Sunset Inn.
According to Prosecutor Tyner, the suspect, Mr. Avery Bracey, 36, was arrested by Atlantic City Police SWAT Team members and a firearm was located on his person.
The investigation continued when a victim walked into AtlantiCare Medical Center City Campus Trauma Center with a gunshot wound to the leg and reported the injury was sustained on Florida Avenue according to Prosecutor Tyner.
Authoritites identified Bracey as the shooter in that crime as well.
Bracey is detained in the Atlantic County Justice Facility for the following charges:
Robbery
Felony Murder
Two counts Unlawful Possession of a Handgun
Two counts Unlawful Use of a Handgun
Murder
Aggravated Assault
This investigation is ongoing and it is a cooperative effort between the ACPO Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department according to Tyner.
These charges are merely an accusation and not proof of guilt. In all criminal cases, a charged defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
