An incident involving a pedestrian being struck and killed by a vehicle late Monday night has plunged Aberdeen Township into a state of shock and mourning.
Monmouth County First Assistant Prosecutor Julia Alonso announced today that an active investigation is underway to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the deadly incident.
It transpired shortly after 11:15 p.m. on Monday, December 11, sending members of the Aberdeen Township Police Department rushing to the northbound lanes of State Route 35, situated between Prospect Avenue and Amboy Road.
There, they discovered the lifeless victim, an adult male, and resident of Aberdeen.
Tragically, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene, leaving the community in mourning.
The driver involved in this heart-wrenching incident, an adult female operating a 2017 Hyundai Sonata, remained at the scene, cooperating with law enforcement authorities as they initiated their investigation.The ongoing probe is a collaborative effort involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Aberdeen Township Police Department.
Their collective focus is to unravel the sequence of events that led to this devastating loss of life and determine any contributing factors.
Authorities are appealing to the community for assistance in piecing together the details of the incident.
