State Police officials are investigating the cause of a wreck that injured two people on an interstate in Hunterdon County.
According to a statement released by State Police Detective Jeffrey Ledron, New Jersey State Troopers swiftly responded to a motor vehicle accident at milepost 22 on I-78 East on Saturday evening.
Detective Lebron said the preliminary investigation revealed a sequence of events involving a BMW, a Chevrolet towing a trailer, and a tractor-trailer, all traveling westbound in the vicinity of milepost 22.
According to Detective Lebron, the BMW collided with the rear of the Chevrolet's trailer, resulting in the Chevrolet impacting the side of the tractor-trailer.
Subsequently, both the Chevrolet and the tractor-trailer veered off the road to the right, ultimately colliding with several trees. Meanwhile, Detective Lebron said the BMW careened off the left side of the roadway, entering the grassy center median.
Tragically, this collision left two individuals with severe injuries.
The driver of the BMW, 39-year-old Mr. Jack Pirone from South Bound Brook, and a passenger in the Chevrolet, 31-year-old Mr. Dixer Noel Arana Rodriguez from Easton, Pennsylvania, were airlifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Detective Lebron said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident is still underway, and no further details are available at this time.
Authorities are working diligently to piece together the events that led to this unfortunate accident.
