An overnight stabbing that occurred in Newark's Central Ward now has authorities from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office investigating a homicide.
The family identified the man as Kendall Lamont Anthony, 26, of Orange and want to extend thanks to several Good Samaritans who assisted Anthony immediately after the incident.
Anthony suffered a stab wound to the chest just outside the Family Dollar Store and Ambassador Fried Chicken located in the 100 block of Clinton Avenue.

EMS rushed Anthony to University Hospital in critical condition where he died at around noon.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed the incident but would only release general details of the incident.
A motive for the stabbing has not been released.
According to family members, Anthony is the father of two young children.
There are no reports of arrests at this time.
