UPDATE: Orange Man Identified as Fatally Injured Belleville Home Invasion Burglary Suspect

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Belleville Police Chief Mark Minichini announced today that the man fatally shot in Belleville on Tuesday has been identified as Michael Ridley, 42, of Orange.

Police said on Tuesday, Oct. 31st, A resident shot Ridley during a home invasion Burglary.

The preliminary investigation, which is being handled by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, indicates that shortly before 10 p.m.

Ridley allegedly entered a home on Berton Place and shot the resident police said.

According to police, a struggle ensued and the resident gained control of the weapon then fatally shot Ridley.

The 32-year-old male resident sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated then released from the hospital.

Ridley, who fled the home and collapsed in Nutley, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the investigation is active and ongoing.
