A juvenile was among three injured in a Newark South Ward shooting incident Monday.
Late night gunfire erupted in the vicinity of 33 Johnson Avenue around 10 p.m. prompting police to the scene.
When officers arrived, they found a male suffering from gunshot wounds after a gunman fired repeated rounds that struck two additional victims, including a 6-year-old child.
All the victims were rushed to University Hospital where doctors pronounced one of the victims dead.
Police taped off the area, collected multiple shell casings and examined other evidence from the scene.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office will now lead the investigation.
The suspect fled the scene and is at large.
