NJ Transit officials confirmed a train strike that left an unidentified trespasser dead on the tracks in Oceanport early this morning.
According to a brief statement released by a NJ Transit spokesperson, the incident occurred at approximately 1:40 a.m. between Bridgewater Drive and Monmouth Park Station where North Jersey Coast Line train number 7201fatally struck the trespasser.
Officials say the NYC to Long Branch bound train carried about 20 passengers and crew during the time of the incident.
Service was temporarily suspended for the investigation but has since resumed officials said.
The identity of the victim has been held until the investigation is completed.
There were no injuries reported on the train.
