A tragic incident has prompted an active investigation by NJ Transit Police after a River LINE light rail vehicle struck and fatally injured an adult male pedestrian.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:21 p.m., casting a somber shadow over Pennsauken.
The River LINE light rail vehicle, which had departed Trenton at 7:27 p.m. and was en route to Camden with an expected arrival time of 8:34 p.m., was involved in the unfortunate collision.
At the time of the incident, transit officials said there were fifteen passengers on board the light rail vehicle.
The accident took place south of Cove Road in Pennsauken, leaving authorities and transit officials with no choice but to temporarily suspend River Line service in both directions between Pennsauken Transit Center and 36th Street Station.
A substitute bus service has been arranged for affected passengers to mitigate the disruption.
NJ Transit Police have swiftly taken charge of the situation, arriving at the scene to lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
