UPDATE: NJ Resident Indicted for New Year's Day Homicide, Endangering Charges

Authorities in Monmouth County announced that a Monmouth County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against a male resident of Marlboro for a homicide that took place in the early hours of New Year’s Day. AdMonmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said that Carl A. Richards, 39, is charged with one count of first-degree Murder and three counts of second-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

The Endangering charges stem from three children being present in the home at the time of the attack, officials stated. 

According to officials, on Monday, January 1, at approximately 12:49 a.m., the Marlboro Township Police Department responded to a residence on Texas Road in the Morganville section of Marlboro Township for an urgent request for medical attention for a male who had been assaulted at that location.

Upon arrival of police, officials say, the victim, identified as George L. Mott III, 64, was discovered unresponsive with severe trauma to his head, face, and neck.

Mott was rushed to Old Bridge Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 1:49 a.m., officials said. AdOfficials stated that an investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office – Major Crimes Bureau and the Marlboro Township Police Department revealed that subsequent to a verbal dispute, Carl A. Richards repeatedly physically assaulted the victim, causing his death.

Authorities say it was determined that both Mott and Richards reside at the residence.

Richards was arrested and transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI), where he remains incarcerated, as a motion by the State to keep him detained was granted, officials said.
