Authorities in Gloucester County announced that on November 9, a continued investigation by the GCPO and Glassboro Police Department resulted in the arrest of Brian K. Barnes, 42, of Glassboro.
Officials stated Barnes, who was identified as having been involved in a dispute with Sidney Garcia on October 20, which resulted in the exchange of gunfire between the two.
During that exchange, Barnes was wounded, officials say.
Authorities say Brian Barnes and Garcia were well-known to each other.
According to officials, Barnes was charged with Certain Persons Not to Possess a Weapon (2nd Degree), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (2nd Degree), and Receiving Stolen Property (3rd Degree).
Subsequent to processing post-arrest, Barnes was released on a Complaint Summons pending future court proceedings, officials said.
Authorities say on Friday, October 20, Glassboro Police responded to a residence on South Academy Street for a shooting.
Officers discovered Sidney Garcia in the backyard of a residence suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest, officials stated.
Officials say Garcia was transported by Gloucester County EMS to Inspira Hospital – Mullica Hill, where he succumbed to his injuries.
During the initial investigation, officials said, detectives determined that Garcia was shot during an exchange of gunfire with another Glassboro resident.
As a result of the shooting, the Glassboro resident was also shot during the exchange of gunfire but survived his injuries, officials say.
