UPDATE: NJ AG Releases Video Footage of Fatal Police-Involved Shooting in Manchester

NJ AG authorities announced that the Attorney General’s Office released recordings from a police body-worn camera and two 911 calls relating to a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on December 5, 2023, in Manchester Township, Ocean County, New Jersey.AdThe decedent has been previously identified as Shannon Rose, 39, of Manchester, officials stated. 

Officials said the fatal police encounter is under investigation by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA)

The recordings are being released pursuant to policies established by the Attorney General’s Office in 2019 to promote the fair, impartial, and transparent investigation of fatal police encounters, officials say. 

Authorities say investigators previously met with representatives of Mr. Rose’s family to review the recordings.

According to the preliminary information, on December 5, 2023, at approximately 8:28 p.m., members of the Manchester Township Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting an individual in distress, later identified as Mr. Rose, who possessed a firearm.

Officers located Mr. Rose in a wooded area at approximately 9:10 p.m. on Elizabeth Avenue in Manchester Township and attempted to negotiate with Mr. Rose to surrender the weapon, officials say. AdTheir repeated requests to drop the weapon were unsuccessful. Manchester Police Officers Nicholas Greenwood and Michael Anderson discharged their firearms, striking Mr. Rose, officials said. 

Authorities recovered a firearm near Mr. Rose, who was later pronounced deceased.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further information has been released at this time, according to officials.
