In a tragic incident early Friday morning, 42-year-old Ms. Melody Regus from Newark lost her life in a vehicle collision while riding her electric bicycle.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office reports that the accident occurred at the intersection of Main Street and South Grove Street in East Orange.
Officials told RLS Media that at approximately 4:25 a.m., a Nissan Rogue struck Ms. Regus.
She was immediately transported to University Hospital for emergency care. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the medical staff, she was pronounced dead at 4:50 a.m. county officials said.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office is actively investigating the circumstances of the crash to understand how this fatal incident occurred.
As of now, details about the driver of the Nissan Rogue and the sequence of events leading up to the accident remain unclear.
Ms. Regus was reportedly an employee for The Essex County Division Family Assistance & Benefits. It is not immediately clear if she wore a helmet during the crash.
The intersection of Main Street and South Grove Street, known for its busy traffic, is now under scrutiny as the community mourns the loss of Ms. Regus.
