Newark Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the city’s South Ward this afternoon.
Initial reports suggested a male victim was shot inside a barbershop on Clinton Place, though police not confirmed or elaborated on these details. Management at the barbershop said a shooting did not happen in their establishment. According to a statement from Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, police responded to a report of shots fired near the intersection of Clinton Place and White Terrace at approximately 2:39 p.m. today.
Upon arrival, officers found a man who had been shot. Director Fragé did not specify the exact location where the shooting occurred.
The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Director Fragé noted that the investigation is ongoing.
Despite the initial reports, there was no crime scene established at the barbershop located across the street and the establishment remained open.
