UPDATE: Newark Police Officer Shoots 18-Year-Old Robbery Suspect

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today Victor Raymonds, 18, of Newark was shot and injured by an Newark police officer who was on his way to work.

Police said Raymonds is listed in stable condition at this time.

The shooting occurred yesterday at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the area of Summer Avenue and Sylvan Avenue.

The initial call was for a robbery in progress.

Police said the involved officer and two additional officers were injured.

They were treated and released from University Hospital.

Raymonds has been charged with robbery, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on police officers.

Consistent with Attorney General guidelines, the incident remains under review by the Professional Standards Bureau of the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
