A Newark Police officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by an ATV Monday afternoon in the city's North Ward.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, the 2nd Precinct captain was struck by an ATV at 15 Coeyman St. shortly after 4 p.m.
Police say the Hispanic male driver of the ATV was observed driving erratically in the neighborhood when officers attempted to stop him from operating the illegal vehicle.
After striking the police captain, the suspect led officers on a foot pursuit in that section of North Ward. Police say the suspect was last seen wearing dark clothing and a helmet.
Officials said the officer complained of pain, but no serious injury was reported. He was treated at the scene by EMS.
The suspect remains at-large and the search for the assailant is active.
