UPDATE: Newark Police Arrest Suspect in South Ward Tire-Slashing Spree

A swift investigation and proactive patrolling by Newark Police have led to the arrest of a man suspected of destroying multiple vehicles by slashing their tires in the city's South Ward.

Director Frage said in a statement Mr. Nathaniel Jackson, 28, of Newark, was taken into custody earlier today in connection with several incidents of criminal mischief.

NinoJackson is accused of slashing tires on numerous vehicles during the overnight hours of August 19 on the 100 block of Mapes Avenue and August 22,  in the 800 block of South 14th Street.

Police report that the arresting officers recovered the weapon used in the vandalism. Jackson now faces multiple charges of criminal mischief related to the incidents.

Slashing The tire-slashing spree disrupted the morning routines of many South Ward residents, including parents of school-age children preparing for the start of the school year.

The damage left many families stranded, causing frustration in a community already focused on back-to-school shopping.

It is unclear whether Jackson is responsible for additional tire-slashing incidents in nearby neighborhoods, where over 40 cars have been reported vandalized.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Jackson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. No further information has been released at this time.
