Authorities announced the arrest of **Mr. Lamar Shell, 27, of Newark,** for an aggravated assault that occurred Saturday.
According to police, at approximately 1:50 p.m., officers responded to the area of 14th Avenue and South 8th Street to a call of shots fired.
Responding officers observed Mr. Lamar Shell in the back seat of a vehicle that had crashed into a wall.
EMS transported Shells to University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle returned to the scene and told police he had been shot at during the course of a robbery but escaped as a result of the car crash.
Detectives developed sufficient evidence to identify Lamar Shell as a suspect in this aggravated assault according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.
Last night, police arrested and charged Shell with two counts of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
