Two Newark men accused of robbing a Union gas station at gunpoint have been identified.
According to police, officers were called to the Exxon gas station, located at 1601 Route 22 West, at approximately 2 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery.
Shortly after a description of the suspects and vehicle were broadcasted, police spotted the red Range Rover - reportedly carjacked out of Newark on July 3rd - heading east on Route 22.
When police activated their lights and siren, a pursuit was initiated until Osborne Terrace in Newark, where the driver lost control and crashed.
A brief foot pursuit ensued but suspects were quickly apprehended.
According to police, a loaded 9mm handgun and an imitation automatic rifle (AK-47) were recovered from inside the vehicle.
The suspects - later identified as Maurice Ellis and Anthony Reddick - were arrested and charged with robbery and various weapons charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
